Races

If you’re in the Wilmington area there are plenty of races to choose from. Here is a quick summary of all my races.

Wrightsville Beach Valentines 10k
February 2017

This weekend I had planned on running 8 miles, as part of my 1/2 marathon training plan. The day before this race I signed up for it. I ran an easy and slow 2 miles before the race, and ran the 6.2 mile race. Surprisingly my pace was really good. Putting in 8 miles felt good.

Wilmington RoadRunners Turkey Trot 4 mile trail run
November 2016

I hate trail races…. did I mention I hate trail races. I hate running on sand even more. This race had both!! The only reason I loved this race was because I was able to get Zach to run this race with me. It was great for him to finally meet most of my running buddies. By the way, this is the only time you will ever see us in matching shirts.

Battleship 1/2 Marathon
November 2016

I was hoping for a PR, but this race snuck right up on me. My training plan went out the window so I just winged it.

Oktoberfest 15k
September 2016

This race was a last minute decision and it was a tough one. It was a beautiful course. It is actually the same location as my very first race which was also a 15k.

Wilma Dash 5k
May 2016

The infamous women’s only race in Wilmington… AKA the hottest race of the whole year. I definitely suffered through this race, not only because of the heat, but also due to the fact that I had been recovering from a few injuries from months before. As always, my only goal was to finish the race.

Ortho Wilmington 5K
May 2016

You might start to see a pattern with my races… I like to do the same races every year. Honestly, the only reason I wanted to do this race, was because I loved the race shirt that I had received the year before when I ran it. I swear the humidity this day was 100%. There was so much fog when I was driving to the race, I couldn’t see 25 feet in front of my car. I almost turned around went home because I was afraid of getting in a wreck. Thankfully there was no fog during the race. This 5k had 3 water stops and I stopped at every single one. One cup of water to drink and one cup of water to pour on my head.

I finished the race with a 2 second PR. I was just about to leave the race when I decided to look at my ranking in my age group. Turned out I placed 3rd in my age group. My first age group medal!

Disneyland Star Wars Rebel Challenge

January 2016

This was my first RunDisney race, and I loved it. I ran this race in Disneyland, CA, with my brother and sister-in-law. I ran the 10k on Saturday and the 1/2 marathon on Sunday. It was a blast. Click the picture below and check out more details about my race.

Disney World Star Wars Half Marathon
April 2016

This was an inaugural race at Disney World, and was amazing. My family decided to plan a vacation around this race. My parent, sisters, and I went to Orlando for the week. I loved running through all the different parks in Disney World. I did however miss having friends and family to run with, but having my boyfriend at the finish was perfect.

Battle at the Borders
July 2015

This is not an official race. This is a race between the Wilmington Road Runners and the Grand Strand Road Runners (Myrtle Beach’s running club). We meet at the border of North Carolina and South Carolina for a 4 mile trail run. The winning team gets the trophy and bragging rights for the next year. This was my first year running it, and we won!
