Training? What training?
This past weekend I ran my 5th 1/2 marathon. Yes, 5! I never in my wildest dreams thought I would ever run one 1/2 marathon, and now I’ve completed five.
Every time I sign up for a race, I always tell myself that I’m going to train and get serious about it… yeah that never happens. I felt that I was properly training for this race, up until Christmas and New Years, and that’s when I took about 2 weeks off of running. I got back into training and stepped it up, and then took another week and a half off for Zach’s Winging ceremony. The race seemed to creep up so fast. It was here before I realized it. I Continue reading “Quintiles Wrightsville Beach Marathon”
It’s been a while since I’ve posted something. Unfortunately, there has been a slight change of plans. I was planning on running the Wrightsville Beach Quintiles Full Marathon in March 2017. Flashback to January of 2016, I suffered from an IT band injury to my left leg. I didn’t run for about 3 weeks, and it was the most excruciating pain I’ve ever experience while running.
This past December I started my training for my first full marathon. I figured I had plenty of time get up to 20-something miles. I usually do my long runs on Saturday with the roadrunners, that way I have company. For four Saturdays I was stuck at 8 miles. After 6 miles I started to feel a tweak in my knee and at mile 8 a little pain started to settle in. Remembering how much trouble I had with IT band in January, I was very careful on my runs.
I finally came to the very tough decision to transfer from the full marathon to the half marathon. I decided instead of struggling through 26.2 miles and not knowing what is going to happen with my knee, I will try to get a PR for my half marathon. My PR for a half marathon was actually at my first half marathon, which was the Wrightsville Beach Quintiles Half in 2015. I finished in 2:16:16. My goals for this race: Finish and get a PR.
Half marathon number 5 here I come!!
Have you ever ran a race that you knew you weren’t ready for? A race in which you had planned on training for months, yet for some reason you lose track of time and the races date sneaks up on you. Yep, that happened to me, and unfortunately it was a half marathon. I had planned on training for this race, and honestly I used every excuse as to why I didn’t… weather, traveling, work…etc. It was a very rough race.
The course was quite nice. I was able to run through downtown Wilmington (my hometown). The weather was absolutely gorgeous. I started the race doing pretty well, but by mile 6 I was struggling, and only 7 more to go. By some miracle I finished this race, haha. Here are a few pics
Whew that was a slowwww half marathon, but at least I finished.
The medals were awesome! I loved the patriotic theme.
Blurry picture, but here I am in front of the USS North Carolina.
